Biography

Atheena Peter (she/her) resides on unceded lands of the Gadigal and Wangal peoples of the Eora nation. She was born in Kozhikode, Kerala and identifies as a brown and beautiful Indian woman who is a first-generation immigrant to Australia.

Atheena is a founding Non-Executive Director and the Company Secretary of Women of Colour Australia. She is an established teacher, a lifelong learner, facilitator, and a strategic, human resources advisor with over 10 years’ experience.

She firmly believes that educating a girl can empower a nation* and hopes to leverage her background in teaching and corporate training/development to advocate for and strengthen the experiences of Women of Colour in Australia.

Atheena is passionate about media representation and abolishing colourism, wears her heart on her sleeve, and hopes to learn through shared experiences from all incredible Women of Colour across Australia and beyond.

She holds a Bachelor of Secondary Education (English major) and a Master of Public Relations/Communication from the University of NSW. In her personal time, she enjoys spoiling her niece and nephew, going for hikes, reading books by women of colour, and lazing at the beach not caring how dark her skin gets because it’s beautiful either way.
